@phoneboy My wife mentioned 2 possibilities:

• Something half-remembered ('Dawn Phenomenon'??) where the blood sugar drops overnight until a level at which the liver kicks in to add sugar to the blood to keep you alive overnight.

• Digestion of last night's last meal continues through the sleeping hours.
